Qadr destroy Adiyat in shortened game Jun 2, 2008
by Zuhair Fancy

Qadr came into this game still angry about their loss last week to Tamjeed. They now needed to win over Adiyat and have Fatiha defeat Tamjeed to jump back into first place. Qadr did get a boost with the return of Sadmir Kadic but did not have five players to start the game. The first half game clock was started per league rules until Qadr had five players to start the game or face a default if ten minutes ran off the clock. Qadr was almost out of time when Andrew Motta arrived to help his team avoid a default and the game finally began. Qadr seemed determined to get a stranglehold on this game early as they pushed the ball up court quickly and the beneficiaries of this were Kadic and Najib Schemkhel as they both scored easy break-away lay-ups. At the end of the abbreviated first half, Qadr was leading by a 27-8 score.

Qadr was led by Schemkhel with 8 points while Kadic added 7 points. Adiyat was led by Manny Dhaliwal with 3 points.

The second half saw Qadr continue to score at will as they just out-ran Adiyat down court at every opportunity. Adiyat called a timeout with 12:43 left in the half and down 51-14, meaning Qadr was on a 24-6 run to start the half and looking strong. The rest of the game continued in this trend as Qadr poured it on and coasted to an 89-35 win.

Qadr was led by Motta with 23 points which included shooting 5 for 9 on 3-pointers. Schemkhel had 20 points and 14 rebounds while Trifunovic added 19 points and 12 rebounds. Qadr was impressive in this game as they scored 89 points despite losing almost half of the first period meaning they could have broken 100 points quite easily.

With the win, Qadr moved into first place as Tamjeed lost to Fatiha. For the playoffs, Qadr gets a bye for the first round and awaits the winner of Fatiha versus Inshirah. Adiyat finishes in last and will play Tamjeed in the first round with the winner advancing to play Zilzal in the second round.
