Heartbreaking Loss… Dec 22, 2008
by Mohsin Mian

In this game, Tamjeed got off to a good start. They played good defense and were smart on offense. Tamjeed started with an 8-0 run, which was finally ended by Inshirah’s Jawad Butt with a 3 pointer to make it 8-3 at the 14 minute mark Inshirah received an unexpected boost when Rami Othman, who was not supposed to attend today’s game showed up with 7 minutes left in the first half, but was subsequently assessed a technical foul for not having the proper shirt. After hitting both free throws, Tamjeed was up 13-8 with 7 minutes remaining.

Inshirah realized that they needed to play tight defense in order to get back in this game, which caused them to be aggressive. Unfortunately this led to them getting in foul trouble early in the half. Tamjeed was shooting bonus with 6 minutes remaining in the half. The half ended on an awkward sequence with Rami Othman bringing up the ball with 10 seconds remaining to get blocked, then to get the ball back, and then hitting a layup after it sounded like the buzzer went off, but referees let it count anyways. At the half, it was 20-14 for Tamjeed.

The second half started in favor of Tamjeed again. Rami Othman received his 4th foul just 2 minutes in, at the 18-minute mark of the 2nd half. After this point, Tamjeed turned up their offense, with 3 pointers by Ben and Sadeq to make it a 27-19 game with 15 minutes left in the half. 2 minutes after, Rami Othman received his 5th foul and fouled out of the game. Once Rami was out, Jawwad Butt took control of the team and ignited their offense. He made an And 1 play with 8 minutes remaining, to make it a 34-26 game. Jawwad later hit another 3-pointer at the 4:30 mark to make it a 34-33 game. Inshirah then proceeded to take its first lead of the game at the 4-minute mark thanks to a jumper by Gopal.

Unfortunately due to poor execution by Inshirah’s offence for the remainder of the game, they lost the game, as Osama of Tamjeed capitalized on poor defense by Inshirah by repeatedly getting to the line. The final score was 43-38 for Tamjeed.
