Shorthanded Bayyina takes Falaq apart in 2nd half Jun 13, 2006

Bayyina came into this game needing a win to jump into second place and earn a first round bye for the playoffs, Falaq was hoping to get their first win of the season and get a groove before their playoff game. Falaq got a boost when Bayyina showed up with only four players for this game and would have to play short a player, although Falaq only had five players present meaning no bench but with some smart team play they had a great chance for a win.

Falaq started off on the right foot as they posted up Bilal Tayara who took advantage of Bayyina’s Usman Chaudary in the post for some easy baskets. Antar Aqil took advantage of some poor Falaq defending to score some easy lay-ups. Despite having the extra player Falaq did not seem organized as defensively they seemed to be playing a weak zone and offensively the ball was not being moved to the open player or dumped into Tayara who had a clear advantage over Chaudary. The first half ended with Falaq leading 13-8 but Bayyina seemed to be gaining some steam going into halftime. Jama Mahmoud led Falaq with 7 points while Aqil led Bayyina with 4 points.

The second half saw Falaq fall apart as Najib Schemkhel got into foul trouble as he picked up some silly reaching in fouls before fouling out of the game midway through the half. With the teams even at four players Bayyina turned up the pace and punished Falaq on fast-break opportunities. When the final buzzer sounded it was Bayyina winning 40-27. Aqil led Bayyina with 18 points while Mahmoud led Falaq with 14 points.

With the win, Bayyina jumps into second place in their division and will get a first round bye for the playoffs while Falaq will have a tough match-up with Nas in their playoff game.
