Inshirah runs up score on Fatiha in blowout win Jun 13, 2006
by Zuhair Fancy

Inshirah needed a win to jump from third to first in their division and get a bye in the first round while Fatiha was looking for their first win of the season. Mohammed Syed seemed to be in full form as he indicated that he was planning to outscore Fatiha on his own and Inshirah would score over 80 points – he ended up getting one of his two predictions correct this day.

The game started with Fatiha getting off to a good start as they posted up Samer Kurdi who took advantage of Syed in the post for an easy basket. Inshirah however used their size to get some tough points early as Justin Fields over powered the smaller defenders for points in the paint. Syed also managed to score some easy lay-ups as he released as soon as Fatiha took a shot and was able to get long passes from teammates for breakaway lay-ups. The first half ended with Inshirah up 47-17 and pulling away, Syed led his team with 20 points while Kareem Toney pitched in with 11 points and Fields with 10 points and 7 rebounds. Fatiha was led by Kurdi with 6 points and 8 rebounds.

The second half saw Inshirah continue their onslaught as the Fatiha guards did not seem to recognize Syed continuously releasing as soon as a shot was taken for free lay-ups. Inshirah continued to push the ball and increase their lead, only stopping to call a timeout with 9:12 left in the game and leading 62-28. Fatiha continued to struggle and called a timeout with 6:15 left and trailing 71-28 after a 9-0 Inshirah run from the previous timeout. Syed got pulled with three minutes remaining after being scolded by a teammate for shooting and not playing a team game. The final score ended with Inshirah up 85-39, Syed finished with 37 points while Kurdi led Fatiha with 15 points and 17 rebounds.

With the win Inshirah clinches first place in their division and will get a bye in the first round of the playoffs while Fatiha would have to wait for the Kafirun game to be played to determine their opponent.
